Become a Student Senator

The Student Senate plays a crucial role as the primary body of ATUSSU, representing and gathering feedback from the ordinary members they serve. This body provides valuable insights and policy direction for the entire Students’ Union. With the power to mandate the Students’ Union Executive on specific areas of work, the Student Senate serves as a guiding force, ensuring the interests of the students are prioritized.

Throughout the academic year, there will be a minimum of four meetings of the Student Senate, with the dates and times agreed upon during the initial gathering. During these meetings, it will be determined whether the sessions will be held in person or conducted online.

One of the Student Senate meetings will also serve as the Annual General Meeting of ATUSSU, creating a platform for elected officers and volunteers to participate in debates and activities. While invited members can engage in discussion and development sessions, their involvement does not extend to voting. This event fosters inclusive dialogue and provides opportunities for learning and growth.

Furthermore, additional meetings of the Student Senate can be called through a vote by the Executive Committee or by a petition supported by two-thirds of the Student Senate members. This flexibility allows for addressing urgent matters or furthering discussions on important issues.

To ensure transparency and effective communication, Student Senators are expected to report back to the ordinary members they represent between Student Senate meetings. This reporting mechanism ensures that the voices and concerns of the students are continuously heard and represented throughout the academic year.
